Advice for the day: hold the door open for people. It will make (me/you) feel better about what (I’m/you’re) not doing for (my/your)self. But also, do it for yourself.
Does anyone ever really think about the greater good anymore? Or am I one of a dying breed? I know I can’t cure world hunger, global warming, or ignorance. But I can try. All it takes is one. Isn’t that what they say? But how many ones are needed to clear up those issues? All I can do is my best. Nothing more, nothing less. [Granted, I don’t always do my best. But I feel better doing something than nothing.] I conserve, I recycle, and I express my opinion. I like to think the little things make a difference. This includes holding the door open. Don’t take it for granted, but do feel gratitude for it. That’s all I aim for - to aid, and to provide something you may not find anywhere else.
Love makes the world go round, I think. And [yes, I’m gonna go there again] music is my love. It makes my day better to hear a good song, to listen to the words, and to think about it. Then, typically, I write something of my own. Sometimes it’s a little crazy, but other times the inspiration shows up front and center [a little too much, sometimes]. But I once heard in an interview with a songwriter that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, or something to that end.
So, when I’m feeling good, I’ll open the door for a (pretty) girl [and guys too, so they don’t feel left out], and try to pass on that good feeling.
What have we learned? That difference is the cure for indifference? Maybe. A challenge: be seen doing something out of the ordinary, that one wouldn’t expect. But you’re not limited to holding the door open for somebody. Whatever, your choice. It might make you feel good inside.
One of these days, when the rain lets up, I’ll be on Spring Garden singing, trying to make people smile.
To A: Do you think indifference is encompassed by modernity? I don’t know the right answer, but maybe you can enlighten me.
Silly people, me included. Jaywalking in a busy street, smoking a cigarette, you’re only asking to die a little faster.
